Position Summary:
The Vice President/Sr. Vice President of Sale and Business Development will serve as Bionova’s commercial leader driving sales activity. The qualified candidate should be somebody with previous executive experience in sales within the biologics CDMO industry, having strong experience within deal negotiation and closure across the contract manufacturing space is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong management and problem-solving abilities, and familiarity with providing proactive leadership for Bionova is essential.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Should be able to successfully develop and implement a sales plan to generate new business.
  • Position requires overseeing all commercial activities, should be able to lead a sales force act as coaches and mentors, while understanding the market fluctuations and how they impact company goals.
  • Must build strong interpersonal relationships with the other sales staff to provide motivation and effective feedback, with a goal of implementing company objectives and managing workflow. Must work well with colleagues at all levels of the company.
  • In seeking new growth and opportunities for the company, must cultivate clients, both online and in person. This includes developing a social media presence that provides insight into the company’s accomplishments, goals, and objectives. Develop relationships with vendors and clients to cultivate existing business relationships and identify new ones.
  • Should also develop prospecting and account management strategies to acquire new clients and secure business with existing accounts.
  • Build and strengthen sales pipeline while maintaining current client relationships with a CRM system.
  • Clear understanding of complex sales cycles from lead generation through to deal closures..
  • Additionally, advise on marketing strategies that can help Bionova reach prospective clients in the territory through marketing placements, conference attendance, professional/ regional association memberships, etc.
  • Sell the full portfolio of CDMO services that Bionova offers to biopharma customers, including cell line development, process development, analytical studies, and GMP manufacturing.
  • This role also involves close coordination with internal stakeholders, including technical staff, project management staff, and administrative/support staff, to maintain client relationships.
  • Work closely with Asahi Kasei (AK – Parent company) to define business strategy, defend proposals, and move Bionova forward as a premium biologics contract manufacturer.
  • Expect to travel 25% to 50% of the time, visiting client sites within the territory, attending tradeshows and conferences, and supporting customer visits at Bionova’s site in Fremont, CA.
Required Skills:
  • A bachelor/MS/MBA degree in business and Scientific discipline. Strong, proven leadership experience of commercial teams within the CDMO space.
  • 15+ years Sales/Business Development experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position and a proven track record of success
  • Drug development and manufacturing experience in the field of biologics, gene and cell therapy products and/or vaccines
  • Must understand relevant pharma/CDMO market initiatives and preferably have Previous track record in a commercial function, including sales/business development and key account management.
  • Hire, recruit, coach, and train employees within a Business Development context
  • A positive and enthusiastic personality and the energy and drive to bring new customer deals to a successful conclusion.

  • Ability to work on complex problems with multiple interdependencies.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, as dictated by client, conference, and marketing needs.
Compensation Range: The base compensation range for this role is between $220,000 and $270,000. However, the actual compensation may vary depending on your experience and qualifications.

Retirement Plan (401K): 3% safe harbor contribution towards an employee's retirement plan and matches up to 5% dollar-for-dollar of an employee's base pay.
Paid time off: up to 120 hours (3 weeks) of PTO in a given full year. Plus 3 days of Sick Leave.
Holiday: Ten (10) holidays each year.
